FAQs
MILK
Milk is delivered to Farmers' Leaf every Thursday fresh from Lone Pine Creamery in Didsbury.
Legally they have to pasteurize all of their products but that is ALL they do. Nothing is taken, nothing is added.
Your milk is dated Best Before for Whole Milk is 12 days out and 3 weeks for Chocolate milk.
Milk arrives Thursday morning and we order lots for the store but it sells pretty fast. If you would like to order it on a recurring basis, we can do that! Your milk will be ordered every week until you tell us not to. You can pick it up anytime after Thursday midday and you have until that Sunday at NOON to pick it up. If you do not come and get it, we will put it out for sale.
Best practices: Keep your Lone Pine milk in the back of the fridge, not the door. Because it is fresh and minimally pasteurized, it doesn't last as long as the heavily treated milk that is at the big grocery store.
BLES WOLD A2 MILK PRODUCTS
What does A2 mean? Cows produce one of two kinds of - A1 or A2. A1 cow's milk and milk products are harder for some folks to digest while A2 milk and dairy products do not trouble them. Bles Wold products come from a herd of cows that only produce A2 milk. We carry Bles Wold A2 sour cream, cottage cheese, havarti, gouda, cheddar and Greek yogurt.
FREEZE DRIED VS DEHYDRATED
Freeze drying uses a frozen vacuum process to remove moisture, dehydrating uses heat. As a result, freeze dried fruit, for example, retains more of its colour, texture and flavour. Fruit pieces are crisp as opposed to dehydrated fruits which are more chewy and leathery so they come back to life in your mouth without having to rehydrate them. More of the food's vitamins and essential nutrients are retained with freeze drying than with dehydrating.
Farmers' Leaf Mighty Bites are prepared, freeze dried and packaged in house.
